    Boxing has become a popular sport thru the years. Despite the violence in this kind of sports, many people await every scheduled fight of the boxing champions in the world. Thru the years, many boxing title holders have fought for their name. Many have lost the match to newer boxing champions who continue to top the boxing spot. The few who have kept their title have become the boxing legends with their names included the Boxing Hall of Fame.

    Each fight won by boxers earns the fighter the title to which his category belongs. It may be on the heavyweight category, bantamweight category, lightweight category, etc. Aside from the boxing title garnered by boxing champions, special awards are given every year to give recognition to boxers with exceptional performance during their game as well as their trainers. The Awards are granted by the Boxing Writers Association of America (BWAA), the organization that bestows honor to the best athletes, trainers, and other participants in the world of boxing. The following special awards given for boxing are listed below.

    Fighter of the Year
    The boxer becomes the recipient of the Edward J. Neil Trophy Fighter of the Year award. The award is conferred by the BWAA organization to the best fighter in a given year irrespective of the fighter’s nationality and weight category.

    Fight of the Year
    The Harry Markson Award is conferred to the fight judged to be the best boxing fight in a given year irrespective of the nationality and weight category of both fighters. This award is chosen through cast of votes by the members of the Boxing Writers Association of America and the Ring Magazine writers

    Trainer of the Year
    The Futch-Condon Award is given to the best trainer of a given year who trained or co-trained a boxing champion.

    Manager of the Year
    The best manager of the year chosen by the Boxing Writers Association of America according to their given criteria is the recipient of the Al Buck Award.

    Long and Meritorious Service Award
    The individual who served boxing meritoriously for a long time is the recipient of the James J. Walker Trophy irregardless of their profession and nationality. The award is given by the Boxing Writers Association of America.

    Excellence in Broadcast Journalism
    The Sam Taub trophy is awarded to the individual who exhibited excellence in broadcasting journalism for boxing. The award is presented yearly by the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
    The Lifetime Achievement Award in Boxing
    A prestigious award conferred by the Word Boxing Council to an individual who has made significant contributions to the world of boxing. These contributions whether on boxing competitions, training, sports journalism, photography, mentorship, leadership, etc. must leave a lasting impact on the boxing world. The recipient should also have demonstrated lifetime commitment to the progress and development in boxing.

    There are still many boxing awards and honors to the deserving individuals in the world of boxing. The International Boxing Hall of Fame conducts a special ceremony every year to provide honor to inductees to the boxing Hall of Fame. Boxing sponsors like the Ring Magazine also confer the following awards: Round of the year, Boxer of the year, Knockout of the Year, Upset of the Year, Comeback of the Year, and Event of the Year.
