Through the years, Basketball has been used in healthy competition between the different teams in school, organizations, community, etc. The winning team receives the recognition, prize, and trophy but there are also awards provided to specific players that gave their best performance during the game. The various awards given for basketball games are listed below.
The Most Valuable Player Award
- Given to the best performing player in a team during the entire Basketball game. The criteria for this award include goal scoring, play-making, leadership and defense.
The Most Offensive Player
- Given to the player with excellent offensive ability or skills during the basketball game. Criteria include assisting teammates, scoring goals and being clutch tight during the game.
The Most Defensive Player
- The award given to the player illustrating the most successful defensive skills in the entire basketball game or season
The Sixth Man Award
- the award given to the bench player coming off the bench for more than one game to substitute teammates.
The Rookie of the Year
- Given to the player who excelled in the first year of the basketball game either by scoring goals, making defensive stops, or playing as a goalie
The Goalie of the Year
- Award given to the goaltender player exhibiting the strongest performance during the game. The goaltender position is difficult because there is little room for committing errors or else the team will be defeated.
The Leadership Award
- Award given to players displaying excellent leadership skills in bringing his team together in unity during the game.
Most Improved player of the year
- Given to the player that has made significant improvement from the previous year to the current year. The improvement may be in the defensive, offensive, leadership or goal tending criteria.
Sportsmanship Award
- Given to the player who displayed the greatest sportsmanship throughout the game. Criteria includes being respectful to teammates, opponents and referees.
These common basketball awards are given to give recognition to individual players who have exhibited exceptional skills during the game. Whether the player comes from the winning team or not, as long as the panel has approved his eligibility and found him fitting the criteria excellently he gets the award.
